ADAS Windshield Camera Recalibration
What The Heck Is ADAS and Why Should I Care?
Great questions!
ADAS is the acronym for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems that takes different forms as follows:
- Forward Collision Alert (FCA)
- Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS)
- Lane Keep Assist (LKA)
- Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
- Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS)
- Driver Status Monitoring (DSM)
- Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR)
- Pedestrian Detection (PD)
- Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM)
ADAS technology utilizes radar, lasers and cameras to help make driving safer for drivers and pedestrians alike. These technologies combine to measure distances between your vehicle and other vehicles or pedestrians or fixed obstacles such as parked cars, barriers and curbs. They assist the driver by alerting and providing images or warnings and in some cases (lane retention assist) will guide you gently back into your lane or in the case of the collision mitigation breaking system (CMBS) will actually apply the brakes for you.
There is a growing trend across all vehicle manufacturers around the globe to incorporate these safety systems into the vehicles that they build. This blog is intended to provide you a quick overview of what ADAS comprises.
Some key statistics:
- By 2020 it is estimated that more than 44% of new auto glass production will include ADAS features
- By 2025 49% of cars will require re calibration after a windshield is replaced
Static and Dynamic system are used by different manufacturers. Each requiring different approaches to re-setting and re-calibrating the components listed above.

Auto Glass Technology is rapidly changing.
Adapting to ADAS is more critical than ever before.
Advanced Driver(s) Assistance Systems (ADAS) in vehicles is becoming increasingly popular. These systems rely on cameras, lasers, and radar – often with the camera mounting to the windshield. Any time a new windshield is installed, the camera must be calibrated to ensure proper functionality and to restore the camera to OEM specifications.
